GTC First Aid Course, West London

This initiative has been inspired by the recent incident when a sound supervisor administered first aid to Glenn Hoddle after he collapsed in a TV studio.

Venue: Top-Teks, Bridge House, Royal Quay, Park Lane, Harefield, UB9 6JA
Date: Friday 18 January 2019
A free buffet lunch will be generously provided by Top-Teks.

The 'Emergency First Aid Course' has been approved by the Health & Safety Executive since October 2009 and was implemented mainly for workplaces that require their first aiders to be trained to a nationally recognised level, without having to complete a full three-day 'First Aid at Work' course.

The course is designed to meet the first aid requirements of a low-risk working environment, such as offices, shops, food outlets, etc. This means that, although the course is comprehensive, it may not be suitable for high-risk workplaces, in which case, the full 'First Aid at Work' training course may be more appropriate. Students must be aged 16 or over. The 'Emergency First Aid at Work' course includes:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • First aid kit information and equipment
  • Aims and priorities of first aid
  • Primary assessment and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • The recovery position
  • Choking
  • How to deal with minor and major bleeding, and shock
  • Dealing with seizures
  • Some common medical complaints
  • Defibrillator instruction

The qualification will allow you to be a nominated first aider in your workplace – Level 2 OFQUAL Emergency First Aid at Work. The qualification is valid for 3 years. The HSE strongly recommends 'Annual Refresher Training'.

09:30 – Coffee & registration
10:00 – Course start
16:00 – Wrap

The courses will be run for the GTC by In Safe Hands. The majority of the team are members of the Ambulance Service or other emergency services. They deliver factual training, based on current guidelines and their personal experience. This ensures you will be taught by a professional who regularly performs the procedures that he or she will be teaching you.
