Billy Williams OBE BSC to give keynote talk at the Bill Vinten GTC University Awards
The organisers of the Bill Vinten GTC University Awards are delighted that top DoP Billy Williams OBE BSC (On Golden Pond, Women in Love and Oscar winner for Gandhi) will give the keynote speech at this year's presentation evening at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham on Thursday 15 October. All GTC members plus a guest each are invited to attend this lovely celebratory evening (tickets are free).
Presentations will be made to the winner and runners-up of this year's Bill Vinten GTC University Awards. As well as a trophy, winners receive invaluable paid work experience and membership of the GTC for a year. Previous winners have enjoyed opportunities provided by industry professionals working on Derek, The Delivery Man, Doctors, a Dispatches about the Lockerbie air crash and BBC documentary with Evan Davies.
The prestigious 2015 Bill Vinten GTC University Award Trophy will be awarded to the university or institution scoring the highest combined score for three submitted films in different genres. The Awards organisers were delighted with both the number and standard of entries for the competition which is now in its third year. The number of entries was up and came from a wider range of universities and the standard of the submitted films – you can view a selection of the films here.
Last year's winner, Vince Knight, will also speak, and the event will be hosted by Keith Massey, Chairman of The Guild of Television Cameramen.
GTC members and their guests are welcome to attend the event which includes refreshments and will be a great opportunity to network with other GTC members and others. This year's event will have an extra poignancy being the first since the passing of the GTC's founder member Dick Hibberd, who was so proud of the GTC's involvment in these awards for young entrants into the industry - particularly so as the event will take place in his home town of Farnham.
