Cameraman Dave Stanford presented with Honorary Membership of the GTC for his bravery

When they learned of SkyF1 cameraman Dave Stanford's selfless action in helping to rescue one of the Williams F1 mechanics from the pit garage fire after the Grand Prix in Barcelona a few weeks ago, the GTC Council decided that he should be given an award in recognition of his actions.

This award was presented to him on the afternoon of Thursday 19 July at the Hockenheim circuit by Martin Brundle, the Formula One commentator, with Mark Gillan, the Williams Chief Operations Engineer and Rex Palmer from the GTC Council, who is also a Formula One cameraman.

When the Williams garage was suddenly engulfed in flames following the Spanish GP in May, Stanford selflessly dropped his camera to help mechanic Martin Betts – ‘Barney’ – out of harm's way.
