- Understand the commissioning landscape
- Generate ideas from scratch
- Turn an idea from a concept into a TV programme idea
- Find talent
- Write a proposal
- Manage a slate of ideas
Course Tutor: Nicola Lees has developed hundreds of factual programmes for network and cable channels in the UK and USA, including the BBC, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel and TLC. Testimonials for Development and Pitching Sessions
"Nicola is so friendly, engaging and charismatic that I was spell bound throughout this session. Her natural humour and charm made the session fun, informative, participative and very relevant. I understood much more about the logic of a pitch, and she gave us helpful handouts to support what she had said." Rating – 10 out of 10
"Helpful, practical advice on pitching, including an exercise designed to tease out the essential part of your story, and some great anecdotes from her own career. She went through the process of how she came up with an idea, researched and refined it and then pitched it successfully, and showed us documentary trailers that helped illustrate the essential aspects of a good pitch (e.g. conflict, narrative arc, characters…)." Rating – 10 out of 10
