Ship2Ship Endurance Walk

A message from the Ship2Ship team:

Two years ago, 1 x Unit manager, 1 x Camera Supervisor, 11 Riggers, 2 x Police Officers and a Lawyer walked from Glasgow to the summit of Ben Nevis in the worst recorded weather since 1963. We raised £24,000 for Help for Heroes and had to eat two of the riggers on the way and use the lawyer for firewood.

Now, 24 months later after one heart, one hip and two knee operations we have decided to do it all over again, but this time make it a real test of endurance.

So ‘Ship to Ship' is a 149-mile endurance walk commencing at SS Great Britain lying in Bristol Docks and ending at HMS Belfast moored in the port of London at Tower Bridge.
At 24 to 28 miles a day for 7 days this is going to be a tall order, especially as the team's average age is 51. However, our chosen charities this time are not only fabulous causes but very relevant to the here and now.

BLESMA is the limbless ex-serviceman's association, helping our brave girls and boys deal with life and rehabilitation after amputation. BLESMA has kindly agreed to share all proceeds with the 33/101 Royal Engineers (EOD) injured soldiers' fund. 33/101 are the frontline bomb disposal regiments dealing with IODs on a daily basis and currently sustaining a staggering 1 in 8 casualty rate. The fund gets immediate monies to the families to enable them to be alongside their loved ones as soon as they are repatriated and to provide immediate assistance wherever required.

Diabetes UK is the main focus of research into this life-changing debilitating condition. It provides cutting-edge research and enormous support to the ever-increasing number of people who suffer from this condition.

We have a new member joining the team this time around: GTC mermber Barrie Dodd is a senior camera supervisor, whom I am sure many of you know.

You probably receive many such requests for sponsorship, but this really is a special effort and a chance to raise substantial and focused money to directly support those who need it.

We will, of course, as before be posting training photos and updates as we near the challenge as well as daily blogs and photo/video updates as our blisters form along the route.
