Vans are clearly an important, if not essential, element of kit for lots of GTC members. With the ever-changing regulations, especially in cities, and the upcoming ban on the sale of diesel vans, our Equipment Review Co-ordinator, Graham Risdon, caught up with van expert Dan Gilkes to talk about what's happening in the market.
Dan Gilkes is a freelance editor, photographer and presenter, who has worked in the road transport and construction machinery markets for more than 30 years. A construction plant and transport engineer by training, Dan has written for a wide range of publications in the UK and overseas, covering launches and international exhibitions in the UK, Europe and the United States. With car, motorcycle and Class 1 HGV licences, Dan has been a road tester in the van and heavy truck markets and has carried out production testing in the construction sector. He produces editorial and press material (written and photographic) for JCB and Hyundai Construction Equipment and works with Ignition Online and Toyota Motor Europe to train sales teams across Europe, as the company develops its light commercial vehicle offering. Dan is currently the editor of B2B magazine Van User and has driven pretty much every van and pick-up launched in Europe over the last three decades.
