Performance Short Film Competition 2020 Winners

GTC sponsor Performance Film & Media Insurance recently held its third annual Short Film Competition, this time with a difference… it was virtual! The Performance team were thrilled with the turnout and support received and also pleasantly surprised there were no major technical difficulties on the evening itself!
 
This competition started in 2018 following years of the Performance team attending events and networking sessions and finding out the challenges that face the industry.
In running this competition there were two main goals:

  1. To help get more projects made through the prizes.
  2. To connect people within the industry together.

Despite the competition being online, it quickly became the biggest one to date, with an impressive 689 entries (584 unique entrants), a shortlist of 36, and 6 winning films.

Performance is pleased to announce these winners:


  • Best 'Short' Short

Winner: Clouds
Directed by David Yorke, produced by Phil Beastall
Synopsis: A grey cloud follows a young boy as he struggles to cope with depression.

  • Best Horror

Winner: The Dead Ones

Directed by Stefan Georgiou, produced by Elettra Pizzi
Synopsis: In the world of The Dead Ones, those whose lives are cut short by violence do not disappear, they live to haunt the person who killed them.

  • Best Documentary

Winner: Amongst Mountains
Directed by Ben Sherlock, produced by Leon McCarron
Synopsis: A whirlwind tour through one of the most misunderstood parts of the world.

  • Best Animation

Winner: Hello Jemima
Directed by Peter Baynton, produced by Jesse Romain
Synopsis: The latest in the multi-award winning partnership between American songwriter Benjamin Scheuer and British animator Peter Baynton. Ben posts himself from New York to London to visit the girl he loves. Unfortunately he gets lost on the way.

  • Best Drama

Winner: Lab rat
Directed by Nour Wazzi, produced by Neil Chordia and Amanda Brennan
Synopsis: In a near future, a group of scientists trapped in a room learn that one of them is an AI... and it has been deceiving them. They cannot escape until they figure out who it is.

  • Best Comedy

Winner: The Plunge
Directed by Simon Ryninks, produced by Tibo Travers
Synopsis: Falling in love can be a pain in the arse!
